Virginia Southgate is an attorney with more than twenty years experience in bankruptcy law. Since 1996, she has represented consumer and small business clients in bankruptcy under Chapter 7, Chapter 13 and Chapter 11. Before that, she worked for her father, Bernard W. Southgate IV, as a bankruptcy paralegal and even worked a few months as a deputy clerk at the Bankruptcy Court in Lexington, Kentucky.
Because bankruptcy is an ever changing and detail oriented field, Ms. Southgate regularly attends and has spoken at seminars on bankruptcy for the Kentucky Bar Association, Northern Kentucky Bar Association, University of Kentucky and Midwest Regional Bankruptcy Seminar. She has also been intermittent president of the Northern Kentucky Bankruptcy Committee.
A graduate of Chase College of Law and Northern Kentucky University, Ms. Southgate was born in and has raised her daughter in Northern Kentucky. Actively involved in local organizations, she views the relief bankruptcy provides as an important component of the economic health and growth of this dynamic community.
Ms. Southgate believes strongly that bankruptcy is a critical safety valve allowing people and businesses overwhelmed with debt to get a fresh start, so they can focus their attentions on their families and careers. She knows every person who comes to see her is there because things didn’t go according to plan and understands that the goal of bankruptcy is to allow them to get their lives back to normal.
